Car Shipping and Delivery – Preparation, Coordination and Confirmation

So you’ve found the right car shipping company, gotten a quote within your budget, liked the company’s terms, agreed to their policies, and signed the papers. Now what? Below are some tips you could take for that crucial time in between the arrival of the bill and the arrival of the car.

Before – Preparation of Your Car

Before anything, the most important thing to check is whether your car can still run. You’re going to have a big problem on your hands if your car can’t or won’t run because shipping companies charge a lot more for transporting non-running cars, and you’ll have to redo all your arrangements with them.

An important step that you have to take is draining your car. If you’re a mechanic or you’ve tried fiddling with your car before, you’d know that it runs using a lot of liquids – oils, coolants and such. As necessary as they are, they have to be drained to their barest minimum levels for the car to function. Because cars are usually transported on multilevel trucks, it’s very possible that those liquids would leak onto the cars below. You would then be responsible for whatever havoc those liquids might wreak. Spare yourself the trouble by just draining the liquids before handing the car over.

There’s a thorough inspection before the car is finally handed over. Make sure you wash your car prior to that to make the process quicker and easier. Also, look over what was taken down by whoever carried out the inspection and confirm that it’s accurate.

During – Coordination with the Company

While the car is in transit, things are pretty much out of your hands. That doesn’t mean you won’t have any work, though. It’s still your duty to follow the schedule up with the company and keep them on their toes. Even though you’re just one customer, you’re still a customer, and you should be able to exert enough pressure and insistence on them to keep their delivery on schedule.

After – Confirmation of the Car Delivery

There’ll be another inspection as soon as the car is delivered. This step cannot be skipped as the car could have been damaged while in transit. If you sign for the car and it turns out to have been damaged, there is little to no obligation for the company to give you compensation. Again, look over everything to ensure that nothing untoward happened to the vehicle.

Ensuring that the car delivery process goes as smoothly as possible requires constant communication and cooperation between the car shipping company and yourself. Always find time to update yourself on the status of your car and make sure to get everything – quotations, observations, agreements and the like – in writing.
