Car Movers – Rules, Restrictions and Costs
Moving your car involves a lot of steps, from making the decision to have your car transported, to searching for the transport company and so on. Many think that their work ends as soon as the movers have been contacted and contracted. However, dealing with the movers themselves is a process in itself. Before you go out and start talking to even one car transport company, here are some things you should expect.
Paperwork - Heaps and Heaps of It
One of the standout traits of car transport - or any transport, for that matter - is the paperwork. There are all the policies, the contracts, receipts, job orders, and applications that you have to deal with.
Before you start filling anything out, it’s highly recommended that you collect all your information and file-able papers - car registration, ID’s and the like - and then put them all in one place. Not only will you end up more organized, doing so also makes it easier to find your important documents on and after moving day. Although you already filed all your paperwork with the company beforehand, it’s still very likely that they’ll ask for those same documents on moving day for verification.
Know the Rules of the Game
Another thing you should do before committing to anything with a car transporter is to know the policies and restrictions being enforced both in your and the destination area. Your car transport company might not tell you about such restrictions or, even worse, might not know about them at all. Likewise, it’s also a good idea to look up or ask about the policies that the company you’re dealing with has. It’s very likely that they’ll assume you know those rules already and, thus, not bother telling you about them. If you can’t get a hold of these, try looking for consumer websites that feature reviews and customer feedbacks. They’re also a good way to get a measure of how well that company does business.
Knowing about these restrictions and rules beforehand will go a long way in saving you the expense of having to work around these restrictions when they do arise. Less surprises also mean that you’re more prepared and, thus, more capable to deal with the situation. Given the complexity of the tasks and the magnitude of the tasks involved in dealing with car transporters, an ounce of prevention is worth considerably more than a pound of cure.
